Cason at 6 weeks

Cason has officially graduated from being a "newborn". During weeks 5 and 6 he's turned into a "baby". New transitions include sleeping longer at night (his record is 6.5 hrs the last two nights), much more alert and content during the day, smiling very often, physically much more solid (finally grown into his loose newborn skin), and how can we forget to mention growing out of his size N diapers! :)
New experiences for Cason include:
* His first 4th of July spent at a BBQ in Saratoga with Vivek's family (see photo above) * A full day at Golden Gate Park to watch Daddy's double-header
* His first Playdate with new friends Penelope (two weeks older) and Hannah (two weeks younger)
* First time being babysat by Dadimaa and Dadaji while mommy and daddy went to a concert at Mountain Winery

Cason's 1 Month Old!

The month of June has never gone by so fast! Our new family is doing great. We're continuing to love the adjustments of parenthood...as exhausting as they may be! :)

Cason had his 1 month doctor's appointment today! His weight has increased to 10lbs 6oz and he is 22 inches long. This puts him approximately in the 75th percentile for both weight and height. Aside from a slight diaper rash that I'm working to get rid of, he's a very happy and healthy boy!

Mom has started pumping milk a few times a week so that Dad can enjoy an occasional bottle feed with Cason. Here's a photo of his first bottle, which he took like a champ!
He's also spending time in his Baby Einstein play mat, and has begun to make new friends with the sea creatures. This and his travel swing are a great source of entertainment when he's awake during the daytime.
New things that Cason has experienced since the last post include:

*A trip to Saratoga to celebrate Father's Day with his mom, dad, Dadimaa (Grandmother), Dadaji (Grandfather), and Uncle Vinay

*A full day at Park Chalet in Golden Gate Park to celebrate Matt's Birthday

*A short trip to watch daddy play baseball

Other than that, he spends most days exploring his environment at home, and going on daily stroller rides with mom.

Cason is Born!

Our little bundle of joy has arrived! Cason Abell Bhatia was born on Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 8:26pm.

Mom's water broke at 8am on Monday morning (day two after due date). Contractions began at 12:30pm. We then headed to the hospital at 4pm, and after an 8 hour labor, Cason was born! During the delivery Mom and Baby had lots of support, witnessing the birth were Daddy Vivek, Lori's parent's (Grammy and Papa), and Vivek's mom (Dadima). The rest of the family joined soon after delivery.
Cason was born with a full head of brown hair and eyes that appear to be a hazel/grayish color. We'll have to wait and see how they develop. He was 7lbs 8oz and 20.25 inches long. Mom and baby are very happy and healthy and the Bhatia family is now settling in back at home.

The Pediatrician says that Cason is an A+ baby. He is a terrific eater too, and at his 4 day check-up had almost completely regained his birth weight. At his one week doctor's appointment he was up to 8lbs 1oz and still looking great. The next appointment will be his one month check-up and we'll let you know how things are looking then.

He has become much more alert and stays awake for long periods during the day. We've been lucky enough to have him sleep for 6 hours at night about 4 times now. Cason has smiled at us while awake twice (still not sure if it's fully intentional) and is grabbing at everything with his little hands.

In the last three weeks we have had lots of wonderful visitors and have begun taking Cason out on lots of stroller rides around San Francisco.

First Post

This is our first post. Really just testing the waters to see how easy this will be to keep up with.

We are hoping to use this blog to post photos and updates of Cason once he is born. We are currently 37 weeks pregnant still and patiently awaiting his arrival!
